Downtown gas leak not considered suspicious: PG RCMP

Fortis BC says a gas leak along 10th Avenue in Prince George this morning (Monday) was caused by a pulled line from a meter.
The crown corporation received the call at 7:40 am about a foul odour and a technician was on the scene minutes later.
Communications Specialist Holly Harrison spoke with MyPGNow.com.
“We just want to remind everybody that if you do smell rotten eggs or if you do hear the sound of escaping gas, make sure you stop what you are doing, go outside and call 9-1-1 or call our 24-hour Fortis BC emergency line.”
According to police, the gas leak was not suspicious in nature, and residents are allowed back into the area.

The Prince George RCMP is advising the cause of this morning’s gas leak  along 10th Avenue was identified and does not
appear suspicious.

There is no current risk to public safety and police are allowing people back into the area.

“This concludes the police investigation into the matter. We thank the public for their cooperation in staying away from the area this morning while emergency crews were working,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The Prince George RCMP and local firefighters are on the scene of a confirmed gas leak along 10th Avenue.

“To maintain public safety, police have the area blocked off and have evacuated the affected building.
We are asking that everyone please avoid this area for the morning, to allow crews room to work,”
stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The cause of the leak is currently unknown. Updates will be provided as they come available
