More people are taking the bus in Prince George.
According to City Transit Planner Michael Coulson, the city has been seeing a noticeable week over week increase in riders.
“We’ve seen about a 10 per cent increase in ridership since the beginning of May,” he said.
Coulson said it’s harder to compare to April, as they see more riders throughout the post-secondary school year.
“In April, it began to drop off as students began to exit the community or stop commuting on transit, so the beginning of May is when we began to notice that it’s increasing. That’s not normal for this time of year,” he explained.
Coulson added there could be a variety of reasons as to why ridership could be going up.
“Folks are getting more comfortable riding the bus as we get into the later stages of the pandemic, and also of course gas prices are going up.”
So far this month, Coulson says there has been around 4,300 riders per week, compared to about 3,000 in May of 2021, around a 30 per cent increase.
