Environment Canada warns of heat-related illness risk as PG sees first blast of summer

A special weather statement is in place for Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, the northern capital is expected to see temperatures rise into the mid-twenties over the next few days while other parts of the Interior could crack the 30-degree mark.

The weather office also cautions people that the risk of heat-related illness does exist at this time.

In addition, freezing levels will rise, which could lead to increased snowmelt and snowpack instability.

Temperatures are expected to return to near-normal values by next week.
