Women’s Soccer: 

The USA women’s soccer team qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics following a 1-0 victory over Canada in the final of the CONCACAF Championship in Mexico.

Alex Morgan scored in the 78th minute on a penalty kick.

Canada will battle Jamaica next year (September 2023) in a playoff for the region’s second Olympic spot and an opportunity to defend its gold medal.

MLB:

Washington Nationals slugger Juan Soto edged Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez to win the 2022 Home Run Derby.

Just prior to winning the Derby, Soto called trade rumours “really uncomfortable” as there have been reports that the 23-year-old outfielder rejected a $440 million, 15-year offer to stay with the Nationals.

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played tonight (just after 5:00 PT) at Dodger Stadium in LA.

The Toronto Blue Jays are 50-43 as of the All-Star break and 4-1 since firing manager Charlie Montoyo and replacing him with bench coach John Schneider.

Toronto is 3rd in the AL East and sitting in the 3rd and final wild-card spot, a game behind the (51-42) Seattle Mariners, who have won 14 in a row.

The Jays play their next game Friday night against the Red Sox in Boston.

BC Summer Games:

Prince George is hosting the BC Summer Games for the first time in 32 years (since 1990).

About 2,800 athletes are set to compete in 18 sports from Thursday to Sunday.

The opening ceremony will take place Thursday night from 7 to 8:30 at CN Centre with the Pre-Show at 6:00.

CFL:

The B.C. Lions return to action when they host the (1-4) Hamilton Tiger-Cats Thursday night at 7:00.

Earlier on Thursday (4:00), Montreal is at winless Ottawa.

After six weeks of the CFL season, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are in the top spot with a perfect 6-0 record.

Calgary is next at 4-1 followed by Saskatchewan at 4-2 and B.C. at 3-1.

Western teams are a combined 19-8 while Eastern teams are a combined 4-15.
