Hockey:

The Prince George Cougars traded speedy forward Craig Armstrong to the Red Deer Rebels in return for three draft picks (2nd round pick in 2023, 4th round pick in 2024, and 5th round pick in 2025).

The 19-year-old Armstrong notched 56 points, including 20 goals, in 155 games over three seasons with the Cougars.

The Prince George Spruce Kings have hired Andrew Shaw as the team’s new
Associate Coach.

The 32-year-old Shaw spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Chilliwack Chiefs.

 

Canada will play Latvia today (Wednesday at 3:00 PM PT) in its opener at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Edmonton.

The 10-team tournament began with three games on Tuesday: Finland 6-1 over Latvia, the USA over Germany 5-1, and the Czech Republic over Slovakia 5-4.

(Latvia is competing as a replacement for Russia)

The medal games are slated for Saturday, August 20th.

MLB:

Baltimore Orioles  6  Toronto Blue Jays  5

The Jays are 3-5 on a 9-game road trip that concludes tonight (4:05 PT Wednesday) against the (58-52) Orioles as Baltimore goes for a 3-game sweep.

The (60-50) Jays are 2nd in the A.L. East and leading the Wild Card Standings although less than three games separate five teams in the chase for three spots.

CFL:

The (6-1) B.C. Lions visit the (5-2) Calgary Stampeders Saturday (4 p.m. PT).

The Lions have only played two of their seven games on the road.

Week 10 of the CFL season starts Thursday (5:30 PT) with (2-6) Montreal at (9-0) Winnipeg.

BC Football Conference:

The (0-2) Prince George Kodiaks visit the (2-1) Valley Huskers Saturday night at 7:00 in Chilliwack in the B.C. Football Conference.

The same two teams will also play on Saturday, August 20th in Prince George at Masich Place Stadium.

The Kodiaks are coming off a 35-20 loss to the Kamloops Broncos in their home opener.

Prince George lost its first-ever league game 31-5 to the Huskers on July 23rd in Chilliwack.
