PG Public Library launching hiking kits

The Prince George Public Library has teamed up with BC Parks to offer new ‘Hiking Kits’.

“It’s a really exciting addition to our current inventory of other kits,” said PG Public Library Communications Manager Jen Rubadeau.

“It’s got all the components you would need to safely go out and explore our incredible backyard here in Northern BC.”

The kit includes:

  • Backpacks,
  • Hiking poles,
  • Headlamps,
  • A first aid kit,
  • A compass,
  • An emergency bivy sack,
  • Local hiking guidebook,
  • A packing guide.

The kits were funded through the sales and renewals of BC Parks licence plates.

“British Columbians are lucky to have access to beautiful trails,” said BC Parks Northern Community Liason Officer Natasha Ewing.

“The hiking kits are a wonderful initiative to inspire people to get outside and connect with nature, while providing the basic equipment needed to do it safely.”

There are two kits available at the library.

“This is just a great compliment to the great kits that we already have that encourage people to get outside including our telescopes, our birdwatching backpacks, as well as other really creative kits,” Rubadeau added.

The kits are now available to the public, and can be borrowed with a PG Public Library Card.
