WHL – Prince George Cougars: 4  vs  Vancouver Giants: 2

The Prince George Cougars topped the Vancouver Giants 4-2 in their first preseason game of the year last night.

Four different players scored for the Cougars, and Ty Young made 22 saves on 24 shots.

They will play a second game tonight, once again in Port Coquitlam, against the Victoria Royals.

 

Canada West Women’s Soccer – UNBC: 3  vs  Winnipeg: 1

Paige Payne scored two goals in the win last night, breaking a club record and becoming the top goal scorer in club history with 15.

Sidney Elliott scored the third goal, her first as a Timberwolf.

The team is now 2-1 in the young season, and will be back in action on Sunday at 12:00 at home against the Manitoba Bisons.

Canada West Men’s Soccer – TRU: 2  vs  UNBC: 1

The men weren’t as lucky last night, dropping a close match against TRU in Kamloops.

Loic Benquet was the long goal scorer for UNBC, bringing the team within one goal late in the game.

The men drop to a record of 2-2-1, and will face TRU again tonight at 7:30 in Kamloops.

 

BC Football Conference: 

The (1-4) PG Kodiaks host the (2-4) Langley Rams tonight (Saturday) in the BC Football Conference.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Masich Place Stadium.

CFL – Alouettes: 31  vs  Lions: 10

Without quarterback Nathan Rourke, the 7-1 Lions are 1-2 and struggling to score.

In their last two games against opponents .500 and below, they only have 26 combined points and have lost both.

At halftime, the 4-7 Alouettes were leading the game 21-3.

Lions QB Antonio Popkin only completed 174 passing yards in the game.

Tonight, three more CFL games will take place:

  • Argonauts vs Redblacks: 11:00am
  • Roughriders vs Blue Bombers: 2:00pm
  • Stampeders vs Elks: 5:00pm

 

NFL:

The NFL season technically opened on Thursday with the Bills beating the defending champion LA Rams 31-10, but the 14 games on the first Sunday of football of the year is what has fans salivating.

The Seahawks will open their season on Monday afternoon vs the Broncos.

 

MLB – Toronto Blue Jays: 4  vs  Texas Rangers: 3

Toronto stays hot down the stretch with a narrow 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers yesterday.

Bo Bichette hit a two-run homerun in the second inning, his fifth homer in the last four games.

Even still, it came down to a 9th inning single to bring Raimel Tapia home to edge out the win.

The Jays are currently sitting in the second AL wildcard spot, half a game ahead of Seattle and a game and a half behind Tampa Bay. They are also only 5 games behind the East-leading Yankees.

There is under a month left in the regular season.

The MLB also announced some controversial rule changes to the 2023 season yesterday, including the introduction of a pitch timer, a rule restricting defensive shifts, and increasing the size of bases.
