The Royal Canadian Legion branch in Prince George will be holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph.

It takes place on Monday (19th) and will commemorate the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Chairman, Sheldon Clare would like to see the public show their support especially since it’s a federal holiday.

“We really hope to see a good turnout of people there to commemorate the passing of Her Majesty. It’s important to do this.”

“It will be fairly brief. As for a turnout, we have no idea. It’s a national and provincial holiday for that day, it’s a one-off and of course, an unusual thing as many of us haven’t had this happen in our lifetime.”

Clare mentioned that an occasion like this is certainly appropriate.

“There is a need to commemorate Canada’s monarch who after 70 years of service has passed away. It’s the only Queen most of us have ever known and she certainly dedicated her life to her own country, commonwealth, and the dominion.”

“It seemed appropriate that there be recognition of her passing and at the same time, the opportunity for people to mark that passing by perhaps coming to the Cenotaph and laying a wreath or some flowers.”

Clare adds the event will follow a similar format to the Remembrance Day ceremony.

It will begin at 10:45 am.
