School District 57’s board of trustees have given first and second reading to a proposed balanced operating budget for the coming school year.
Trustee Tim Bennett says the budget bylaw they have tabled comes to $140 million dollars.
Bennett says remainder of the funds will go to projects with certain and capital purchases in the district.
The district will be taking $3.2 million dollars out of its surplus accounts to balance the budget and all departments will be expected to reduce their costs by 0.5%.
A final decision on the school district’s budget is expected at the district’s board meeting later this month.
