MORE CARBON DIOXIDE BEING RELEASED INTO PROVINCIAL FORESTS

256 Million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide was released into BC forests from 2003 to 2012.

Sierra Club B.C. climate and forest container Jens Wieting says the group has submitted a proposal to the Province to help fix the problem.

“we are moving away from supporting oil and gas and instead we need support for improved forest management and we are suggesting a five year plan and setting aside one billion dollars for BC’s forest and forest management.

Wieting adds forest management and logging practices are very poor in the province and reducing emissions is vital.

“we still have very poor forest management and destructive logging practices in many parts of British Columbia and that’s where we have control where we can reduce emissions by improving logging practices”
