Canada West Soccer:

The UNBC Timberwolves conclude their regular season in Canada West women’s soccer with a pair of home games this weekend at Masich Place Stadium.

The UNBC women entertain (5-5-2) Thompson Rivers University (TRU) tonight (Friday) at 6:00 and (3-6-3) UBC Okanagan (UBCO) Sunday at 2:15.

The (4-5-3) UNBC women are fifth out of eight teams in the Pacific Division.

The top five teams qualify for the playoffs.

The UNBC men’s soccer team also has home games this weekend.

They entertain (4-4-3) UBCO Saturday and Sunday at noon before concluding their regular season on the road at (5-4-2) Fraser Valley on Oct 21st and 23rd.

The (6-4-2) UNBC men are in third place out of seven teams in Pacific Division.

The top four advance to the playoffs.

NHL: (10 Thursday games with 3 of them involving Canadian teams)

Calgary  5  Colorado  3

Buffalo  4  Ottawa  1

The Vancouver Canucks, coming off Wednesday’s 5-3 loss in Edmonton, play their second game of the season Saturday (1 PM PT) in Philadelphia.

WHL:

The (3-4) Prince George Cougars host the (6-1) Winnipeg Ice Saturday night at 6:00.

The Cougars are coming off Wednesday’s 2-1 loss against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

17-year-old goalie Carson Bjarnason made 39 saves to lead the Wheat Kings, who were outshot 40-28 before 1,671 fans at CN Centre.

The (5-1) Prince George Spruce Kings visit the (3-3) Vernon Vipers tonight (Friday) at 7:00 and the (3-3) Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday night at 6:00.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

The (2-2) U18 Cariboo Cougars host the (1-4-0-1) Thompson Blazers Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and Sunday morning at 8:15 at Kin 1.

The (1-6-1) U18 female Northern Capitals are off until they host the winless Greater Vancouver Comets on October 21st (6:45 p.m. Kin 1), October 22nd (5:45 p.m. Kin 2), and October 23rd (8:30 a.m. Kin 2).

American League

The Astros lead 2-0 with Game 3 Saturday afternoon (1:07 PT) in Seattle.

The game between Cleveland and the New York Yankees was postponed by rain and is scheduled to be made up today (10:07 AM) at Yankee Stadium. New York leads 1-0.

National League

Atlanta visits Philadelphia this afternoon (1:37 PT) followed by the LA Dodgers at San Diego tonight (5:37). Both series are tied 1-1.

Both Washington and Chicago are 2-4 on the season.

There are a dozen NFL games on Sunday highlighted by Buffalo at Kansas City (1:25 PT).

CFL:

Week 19 of the CFL season begins with a pair of games tonight: (7-8) Montreal at (4-11) Ottawa (4:00) followed by (5-10) Hamilton at (10-5) Calgary (6:30).

The Tiger-Cats are two points behind (6-10) Saskatchewan in the battle for the last playoff spot.

The (10-5) B.C. Lions host the (14-2) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Saturday night at 7:00.

The Lions and the Stampeders are tied for second in the CFL West Division, although B.C. holds the tie-breaker.
