Two youths from PG rub shoulders with Premier Eby during Young Leaders Council meeting in Victoria

A pair of Prince George youth are sharing their perspective and experiences with MLAs and Ministers following a brief trip to Victoria.

Damon Robinson and Prabhnoor Sidhu are both members of the StrongerBC Young Leaders Council, which consists of 18 members between the ages of 14-26 from all regions of the province.

Robinson, who also works with the Students Union at the College of New Caledonia said he had a brief interaction with Premier David Eby and says issues like mental health and housing are high priorities for this group.

“Looking at resources, talking about how we can move forward and improve the mental health of people in our schools and also just in the workforce. That’s something that comes to my mind outside of like the typical education funding.”

“I also know in my time in post-secondary, it’s very difficult to find any housing, and most students tend to live with roommates – not the typical one, or two but sometimes as many four or five different roommates. So, that is something I heard he is passionate about (David Eby). ”

As for his first meeting with Eby, he came away with a similar takeaway that many others from the public have already stated.

“He’s a very friendly guy who made time for us in the cabinet room and honestly, the first impression is that he is tall – I am a tall guy myself. He has a very outstanding presence.”

Sidhu on the other hand is involved in science fairs as well as the BC Heritage Fair Alumni Society.

She added becoming more environmentally friendly is critical for the province’s future and the only way to push that issue forward is to speak up.

“The only way for your problems to be fixed is to voice our problems and voice our opinions and people will listen. I think it’s really important to voice our own ideas and I believe we can make the world a better place when we voice our ideas.”

The 17-year-old is in her senior year at College Heights Secondary.
