WHL-CHL:

Riley Heidt of the Prince George Cougars, with one assist, was named Player of the Game for Team Red in a 4-2 loss to Team White in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game that was played Wednesday night in Langley.

Nico Myatovic of Prince George, who plays with the Seattle Thunderbirds, also notched an assist in a losing cause for Team Red.

Connor Bedard of the Regina Pats, who is expected to be selected first overall in this year’s NHL draft, did not get a point for Team Red.

Koehn Ziemmer of the PG Cougars was part of Team White but did not get a point in his team’s victory.

Tanner Molendyck of McBride, a player with the Saskatoon Blades, had an assist for Team White.

The (19-20-4) Cougars begin a five-game homestand Saturday against the (16-25-3) Prince Albert Raiders.

Prince George is 2nd in the B.C. Division and 6th in the Western Conference three points behind both Everett and Tri-City.

The (18-13-2-1) Prince George Spruce Kings host the (14-16-1-3) Trail Smoke Eaters in a triple-header with games Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 3:00.

Prince George is 4th and Trail is 8th in the 9-team Interior Division.

BC Elite Hockey League: (BCEHL)

(U18 male)  

The (10-13-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars play the (18-3-2-1) Okanagan Rockets Saturday afternoon at 1:45 and Sunday morning at 8:30 at the league showcase in Abbotsford.

Cariboo is 7th and Okanagan 2nd in the 9-team division.

Canada West Basketball:

With just six regular season games left, the UNBC Timberwolves visit the Mount Royal Cougars Friday and Saturday nights in Canada West basketball.

UNBC is 5-9 in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

(The UNBC men have lost their last six)

Mount Royal is 7-7 (men) and 8-6 (women).

UNBC’s Alina Shakirova is the Canada West women’s basketball player of the week.

Shakirova posted a game-high 21 points during Saturday’s 66-64 upset victory over the nationally-ranked Winnipeg Wesman.

The fifth-year guard is seventh in the conference in scoring, averaging just over 17 points per game.

 

NBA:

The (22-27) Raptors, who are 1-0 on a 7-game road trip, visit Golden State Friday night at 7:00.

NFL:

The NFL Conference Championship Games will be played on Sunday starting with San Francisco at Philadelphia (noon P.T. in the NFC) followed by Cincinnati at Kansas City (3:30 in the AFC).

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is dealing with a high ankle sprain but has returned to practice and plans to play.
