Fullback Brandon Deschamps of Prince George was among the final cuts by the BC Lions. The 22-year-old Deschamps played his high school football at Kelly Road before graduating to CIS with the UBC Thunderbirds.

The 6-foot-200 pound Deschamps was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent just prior to training camp.

All CFL teams have trimmed their roster to the 46 player limit. The regular season opens Thursday (Ottawa at Montreal) although the Lions don’t start until Saturday, July 4th in Ottawa.

–James Nearing beat defending champion Kristian Kiland 6-2, 6-4 in the men’s singles final at the Prince George Citizen Open Tennis Championship. With the victory, Nearing captured the Matt Altizer Memorial Trophy.

–This is the final week of the Prince George Senior Lacrosse regular season. Tonight (Monday) at 8 at Kin 1, the 11-0 Westwood Pub Devils take to the floor against the 3-8 Northland/Nissan Assault. The Devils are riding a 35-game win streak dating back to last year. The semi-finals begin on Monday, June 29th.
