McGregor-Bennett plays overtime hero to lift Spruce Kings over Smoke Eaters

The weekend triple-header between the PG Spruce Kings and Trail Smoke Eaters is now tied at one game each with last night’s (Saturday) Spruce Kings’ 4-3 overtime win.

Owen Goodbrand opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings in front of 786 fans at the Kopar Memorial Arena, with less than a minute to go in the first period.

Ty Gagno and Jack Stockfish scored for the Spruce Kings as well, with Stockfish’s marker coming shorthanded.

The Smoke Eaters answered back with a pair in the third, including a penalty shot goal from Brady Hunter, his second of the night.

Evan Bushy scored the tying goal on the powerplay.

In the extra frame, Kilian McGregor-Bennett needed just 14 seconds to seal the overtime win for the Spruce Kings.

The Spruce Kings (19-14-2-1) now sit fifth in the BCHL’s Interior Division, one point behind the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (19-14-3-1).

The Spruce Kings and Smoke Eaters will wrap up their triple-header with a matinee this afternoon at 3:00.

The Spruce Kings will then head out on a three-game road trip next weekend.

Spruce Kings pick up win over Salmon Arm

The Prince George Spruce Kings scored early and often in a 4-1 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Dracen Campbell got the 1,009 fans at Kopar Memorial Arena in to the game early, opening the scoring for the Spruce Kings just 4:08 into the first.
