Special Olympics inclusion fair being hosted in Prince George Sunday

Local Special Olympics coaches, athletes, and volunteers are coming together tomorrow (Sunday) to host an inclusion fair.

It is being held at the Art Knapp Plantland in College Heights, and will be open to everyone.

“This fair is an opportunity for Prince George to come and see that Special Olympics is a program for people with intellectual disabilities… and that it is real competition,” said Patricia Hocevar, the Athlete Input Council Facilitator.

She said many people in town are unaware of the programs that run, and that Prince George has had Special Olympians who have competed at an international level.

“The athletes just want the community to know,” she explained.

There will be multiple activities representing different Special Olympic games set up at the fair, as well as a barbecue and bake sale to raise funds.

“I hope everybody comes,” Hocevar said, emphasizing the event is for everybody to come and learn, not just for people who compete in the Special Olympics.

Separately, a Prince George Special Olympic soccer team just came home from the 2023 Yukon Invitational Soccer Tournament with a bronze medal thanks to a shootout win.

The fair kicks off at Art Knapps’ College Heights location at 10:00, and will run until 2:00 that afternoon.
