City to keep pushing for provincial response to homelessness at Monday’s council meeting

In early December, premier David Eby accepted Prince George City Council’s request for himself, and provincial ministers, to come to the northern capital to discuss and address homelessness and our city’s social issues.

Since then, the city sent two letters in January trying to solidify that trip as a reality, and have received no official response from the province.

You can find those letters here (January 3) and here (January 31).

Tomorrow (Monday), city council will approve the draft of a third letter, once again calling on the province to come to Prince George to address homelessness.

In conjunction with this letter, council will also vote to invite local MLAs and MPs to join a “team PG” – which they describe as “an informal ‘Team PG’ information and strategy roundtable intended to strengthen and build a united, multi-jurisdictional approach for tackling local issues and initiatives by information sharing between each other on key initiatives, issues, or opportunities for the City/region.”

They also hope to meet with Lheidli T’enneh Chief, Council, and senior administrative officials for “informal meetings intended to continue building on the relations between CoPG and LTN, to share information regarding key initiatives each organization is undergoing, as well as to address and highlight opportunities to advance reconciliation initiatives in Prince George,” and with School Board trustees to “establish and maintain strong relations between the two organizations.”

Council first called on the province to meet with them on these issues back in December.
