Hospice raising Colour Walk funds with “100K in the month of May”

The Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society is encouraging PG residents to walk ‘100k in the month of May.’

It’s part of their annual Colour Walk Fundraiser, which has turned into a combination of two events.

“The Colour Walk originally started as a celebration of life with colour up at the university where we gather together for one day and celebrated our loved ones with the coloured powder,” said Hospice Special Events Coordinator Sandra Klimm.

“When Covid hit, we had to be a little bit more creative, and we came up with a virtual event so that we could still get together, so we challenged people to walk “100k in the month of May” in memory of their loved ones.”

Klimm added the month long fundraiser will be capped off with an event with the colour powder in the CN Centre parking lot.

The colour walk is in it’s fifth year, and Klimm said there’s always been between 200 and 300 walkers in the fundraiser.

“We’re hoping it’s going to be even bigger this year,” she said.

“We have the eight colour stations set up at the CN Centre, we have some incredible games and prizes up for grabs, we have a fun prize which is for one person that raises the most pledges.”

Klimm said the goal is to raise $50,000 to build an accessible outdoor space for the hospice guests and their families.

“We have this area behind the Rotary Hospice House that we’re hoping people can access a little bit easier, and just have a place where they can come together without being in the room.”
