Spring maintenance underway for Prince George parks

Some park maintenance projects in Prince George will require some temporary closures this summer.

The city says the Heritage River Trail is under construction, and will be closed throughout the summer for maintenance.

This includes 200 metres of trail north of the CN Rail bridge to replace the pedestrian bridge with a pedestrian/service bridge that allows for trail access for maintenance equipment as well as a safe pedestrian crossing.

“Spring is a busy time for our parks team,” said Parks Supervisor Neil Matheson.

“We have a lot of winter clean-up to do in all our parks and trails to remove tree limbs and garbage, but this is also the start to many important projects that can only be done in the warmer months.”

Spring maintenance includes trail cleanup, playground inspections, tree planting, and parking lot grading.

Those items will take place over the next several weeks.

Other capital projects the city has planned for this summer include:

  • Playground improvements
  • Playground replacement at Moosehart Park
  • Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park washroom improvements
  • Heritage River Trail paving
  • Sports field infrastructure work at Carrie Jane Gray
  • Irrigation improvements at Rainbow Park
  • Hard surface replacement for basketball courts at Hammond and Strathcona Parks

These projects are dependent on weather and availability of contractors and supplies.
