Old Fire Hall #1 to be demolished this month

A 67-year-old building in Prince George is going to be demolished.

The old Fire Hall #1 on 7th Avenue will be torn down on May 21st.

All concrete, metal, and wood materials from the demolition will be recycled.

The fire pole will be also be saved and put on display once a location is determined.

Additionally, the gravel site will be used as a temporary parking lot until the future of the property is determined through the Civic Core District Plan.

Four-way lights will also be installed at the intersection of Dominion Street and 7th Avenue.

On-site activities are expected throughout May and into Mid-June.

Residents in the area can expect some disruptions, but the city will attempt to reduce them by:

  • Using water to minimize dust dispersal
  • Minimize noise by working only between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday
  • Posting traffic disruptions on the city’s news and notices page.

Residents voted in favour of replacing the building in the 2017 referendum, as the building was nearing the end of its service life, and renovations would have cost too much.

Prince George Fire Rescure Crews moved into the new hall on Massey Drive in 2021.
