SCORCHING WEATHER TO CONTINUE IN PG AND AREA

It should be another hot and sunny week in Prince George.

Environment Canada Meteorologist, Lisa Coldwells says despite the heat-wave like temperatures, we won’t see any new records.

“Temperatures are going to be flirting around the 30 degree mark, but it’s not record breaking quite yet, we have to get up to about 32 degrees to break some records.”

Back in 1920 July 6th to 8th saw an average temperature of 33.9 degrees.

Despite the long string of hot and dry weather no major forest fires developed.

Coldwells says the reason for that is simple.

“The main cause of forest fires especially in the central part of British Columbia is there lightning based fires and it has been so dry and stable that we haven’t seen as much thunderstorm activity across the central region and the Cariboo.”

Dryer and sunnier conditions dominated the weather pattern in the Prince George area last month and resulted in a lot less rain.

“Normally we get 65.3 millimetres of rain and there was only 49.7 in June it was a little bit dryer than normal as well.”

The average mean temperature in June was only 15 degrees and was only one degree higher than normal despite the hot weather at the end of the month.
