The Prince George Timberwolves captured gold in the U16 B Boys division at the Provincial Youth Soccer Championships. The Timberwolves (coached by Todd Kuc) beat Surrey 1-0 in the final to finish with an overall 4-0 record in the 8-team tournament, outscoring the opposition by a total of 9-1 in Penticton.

–4 other P.G. Youth Soccer teams competed at the Provincials: The U16 B Girls earned silver in Penticton, dropping the final 2-0 to Kelowna. The U18 A Girls placed 3rd out of 4 in Surrey. The U14 B Girls were 5th out of Nelson & the U14 B Boys ended up 6th out of 8 in 100 Mile House.

–Mike and Fiona Vincent of Regina paddled their way to victory at the Northern Hardware Centennial Canoe Race. They finished the 67.5 km course from Isle Pierre to Prince George in 3:39:43. Pat Turner and Greg Blackburn placed 2nd just 20 seconds off the pace. Chris Cupp and Harry James ended up 3rd.

–19-year-old defenseman Cole McCaskill is leaving the Prince George Spruce Kings after committing to a scholarship for the 2015-16 season with the Colorado College Tigers. The Tigers are an NCAA division 1 team that plays in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA).

–The P.G. Spruce Kings traded 20-year-old forward Daniel Nachbaur (the son of Spokane Chiefs coach Don Nachbaur) to the Wenatchee Wild for future considerations.

–The Westwood Pub Devils and the BX Pub Bandits begin the chase for the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Dale Rolufs Memorial Trophy tonight (Monday) at 8 at Kin 1. The Devils enter the best of seven final riding a 39-game win streak that dates back to last year. The Bandits only 3 losses this year came against the Devils.

–Host Canada leads the medal chase at the Pan Am Games followed by the U.S. The Canadian women’s baseball team, which includes Amanda Asay of Prince George, plays its opener at the Pan Am Games Monday, July 20th
against Cuba.

Asay is a pitcher who also plays at first base. Two other P.G. athletes compete at the Pan Am Games. Boxer Kenny
Lally and high jumper Alyx Treasure also start competition next week.
