PG Sports—July 15-16

The Westwood Pub Devils continue to dominate in Prince George Senior Lacrosse. The Devils dumped the BX Pub Bandits 13-6 to take a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 playoff final. Westwood Pub has stretched its overall win streak to 41 games. In five playoff games this year, the Devils have outscored the opposition 77-16.

(NOTE) The Sr. Lacrosse playoff final, originally scheduled for a best of 7, has been changed to a best of 5.

–PG Senior Lacrosse has handed out its individual awards for the 2015 season. Jon Makowsky of Northland/Nissan
Assault captured the Helen McIntosh Trophy as League MVP.

–The 4th Annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament is featured this weekend at the PG Golf and Curling Club.

It is held in conjuction with the Spirit of the North Heathcare. The goal is to raise $70,000 for equipment in the hospital’s heart unit.

A meet and greet for the public with Cougars Alumni Dan Hamhuis and Eric Brewer and others will be held Friday from 4 to 5 at the PG Golf and Curling Club. 185 Golfers will be on the course Saturday.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings have added defenceman Cooper Prechel to their roster. The 18-year-old
Prechel played last season for Princeton of the KIJHL.

–Simon Nemethy led the Prince George Track Club with three medals at the BC Athletics Track Jamboree in Nanaimo which is the provincial championships for athletes 14 and older. Nemethy earned silver in the 1500m steeplechase, and bronze in the 1200m run and the 2000m run.

Ryan Gaiesky won gold in the 400m Hurdles and took silver in the 110m Hurdles.

Shelby Jansen captured bronze in the 200m dash.

The competition acted as the qualification meet for the Legion Youth Canadian Track and Field Championship to be held in Sainte-­‐Therese, QC -­‐ August 7-­‐9

–Three Prince George athletes are making final preparations to compete at the Pan Am Games in Toronto.

Fighter Kenny Lally is entered in the 56 KG division. The boxing preliminaries are Saturday with quarter-finals Monday.

High jumper Alyx Treasure has her event on Wednesday.

Pitcher/first baseman Amanda Asay is part of the Canadian women s baseball team that plays its opener Monday
against Cuba.
