A winning start for two Prince George athletes at the Pan Am Games in Toronto. Inner City boxer Kenny Lally scored a narrow 2-1 decision over Segundo Padilla of Ecuador in the quarter-finals of the 56 kilos weight class.

The 26-year-old Lally, who received a first round bye, is guaranteed a medal. He advances to the semi-finals Wednesday night (4:35 Pacific Time) against Andy Cruz of Cuba. The winner will fight for gold Friday (4:20 p.m.)

Amanda Asay of P.G. helped the Canadian women’s baseball team to a 13-1 convincing triumph over Cuba in its|
opener. As the DH in the cleanup spot, Asay went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and an RBI.

Canada continues round robin play tonight (Tuesday) against Venezuela before facing Puerto Rico Wednesday & the U.S. Friday. The 27-year-old Asay is also a pitcher and a first baseman.

–In Pan Am Games Track and Field, 23-year-old Alyx Treasure of Prince George competes in the women’s high jump Wednesday morning.

–The Prince George Thunderbirds placed 9th out of 15 teams in the U18B Division at the minor girls Softball BC Provincials in Nanaimo.

–With an overall 5-3 record, the Prince George Timberwolves earned bronze at the minor boys Softball BC
Provincial U18 Championship in Clearwater.

–Prince George went 0-3 in the Ball Hockey Provincials C Division in Kamloops.

–The Provincial Midget Lacrosse Championships are featured at the Kin Centre in Prince George. Competition in the A1 Division starts Wednesday. The A2, B and C Divisions begin Friday. Host PG is represented by the A2 Midget Posse.
