The M-P for Cariboo-Prince George is pleased changes to the Universal Child Care Benefit took effect today.
Dick Harris says BC families will benefit from the new program.
“In British Columbia approximately 350 million dollars in retroactive payments were sent today to about 465 thousand BC families and this is great.”
Harris adds they have tried to get the changes in place for the better part of a year.

“It was probably in the making for about a year, it was passed in the budget last April but the great thing about it was they made it retroactive and effective to January 1st of 2015.”
The child care benefit pays almost 2000 thousand dollars for every child under 6 and 720 dollars for each child between the ages of 6 to 17.
