It was a rough year for the Prince George Ice Oval.
President, Kathy Lewis says it was a weird year.
“Quite a strange year, it was the shortest season we have ever had by far in terms of public skating, we were only open 23 days to the public which is typical for a good month in a normal season.”
Lewis adds there were several factors for the disappointing year.
“The reasons for that was partly the weather, we had to recover the ice three times from meltdown and a lot of it had to do with the Canada Winter Games which we did host for at least one day and we hosted the BC Long Track Championship.”
During the weekends they were open there was between 300 to 400 people attending public skates.
Priority number one for the Oval this upcoming season will be to install a new refrigeration system.
Lewis says a new system will depend on a variety of factors.
“The kind of system we put in whether it’a regular refrigeration system or we look at something like a geothermal type system which is more expensive than a normal system but in the long run is cheaper because it’s cuts down on fuel costs.”
The oval is trying to get financial aid through grants and will have a better idea on what direction they will be headed by the end of August.
