CRIME RATES DECREASE IN PRINCE GEORGE

The crime severity index for Prince George has decreased.

Stats Canada Analyst, Jillian Boyce has the numbers.

“Overall the crime severity index was 136.89 in 2013 and then it decreased to 131.02 in 2014.”

Violent crime is also down in the city.

Boyce adds the ranking changed quite a bit from a year ago.

“The ranking changed quite drastically in 2013 PG ranked 12th highest and in 2014 your are down to 23rd.”

The drastic dip can be thanked to a reduction in several categories.

“Robbery and second degree murder had the biggest impact in driving that number down followed by uttering threats and fewer aggravated assaults.”

The city is now ranked 22nd in Canada for crime severity which is down from last year’s 20th place ranking.

The overall crime rate in Canada dropped by 3 percent last year.
