RECENT TOURISM BOOM IN BC BEING FELT IN PG

The number of tourists visiting BC has risen by over 100 thousand compared to last year.

Tourism Prince George CEO, Erica Hummel says similar increases have also taken place in the city.

“We’re seeing the same, we’re a lot more visitors through the visitors centre and they have started earlier, we saw them as soon as they snow melted and that is typically not what we are used to, we had an early spring and a lot more people coming up through the states and a lot of Europeans as well.”

Hummel says two things have played a role in the recent increase in traffic.

“The low value of the dollar brings brings a greater spending capacity for visitors from out of Canada as well as the Centennial year in Prince George so we have more festivities planned and more activities so people stay longer.”

The hot weather has also played a part.

Tourism in BC has seen an increase of 7.8 percent from 2014.
