Unemployment continues to rise in PG

The July job numbers for Prince George isn’t a pretty picture.

Vince Ferrao with Stats Canada says the city’s unemployment rate saw a big jump from a year ago.

“An unemployment rate of 7.8 percent and that compares to an unemployment rate of 6.3 percent that we saw at the same time last of July 2014.”

Just over 47 thousand people were employed last month compared to 51 thousand last July.

The provincial numbers tell a different story.

29 thousand more people found work last month bringing the province’s unemployment rate to just under 6 percent.
