Staycations are becoming a popular alternative for BC tourists

With the Canadian Dollar on a downward trend, more people are travelling within the province or exploring what Prince George has to offer.

Tourism Prince George CEO, Erica Hummel says stay-cations are a popular alternative from travelling abroad.

“Stay cations are a great way to spend time and not spend as much money as you would going to the states or abroad, definitely with the lower dollar it’a great idea to stay in British Columbia and have your holidays here.”

Hummel adds spending time at the local brewery or winery is a great way to relax.

“Enjoy local brew, local beer, local wine it’s a great way to support the region and to relax as well when you are not worried about taking flights and waiting at airports you can just relax.”

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, Shirley Bond encourages people to take advantage of a popular attraction in Prince George.

“We have a great park drive-in theatre where you can see an outdoor movie, so many things you can take advantage of it’s also great for the local economy whether it’s regionally or in the province it’s means we can support those tourism providers.”

Visitors can use the Tourism PG or Hello BC websites to organize trips.

In 2013, the B.C tourism sector employed 132 thousand residents from the province which equates to almost 1 in every 15 jobs in B.C.
