Governance for all public forest activity too inconsistent, says FPB

The Forest Practice Board recently investigated forest stewardship plans, or plans that govern forestry activity on public lands.

Board Chair Tim Ryan says the plans should be re-written in a way that leaves little interpretation:

“They’re too vague, and they need to be re-written. Sometimes it’s just changing a few words, or in other cases a great deal of words; to be clear as to how licensees will meet the governments environmental objectives.”

He says as it stands, the plans are far too inconsistent with little measurability for companies.

Ryan believes that public involvement should be far greater, to better inform them about what activities will be taking place.

Many of the plans are set for review and extension within the next year.
