PG RCMP offer back to school tips for students and drivers

The Prince George RCMP has some tips for students heading back to school.

Media Liaison Officer, Craig Douglass says one tip could prove to be very helpful.

“Leave the ear-buds out when walking to school, students need to make sure eye-contact is made with drivers so they can see them and stepping in front of a vehicle is never a good idea.”

Douglass adds penalties will be assessed to drivers who do not obey crossing guards or flashing red lights from school buses.

“When the red lights are flashing you do not pass the school buses in either direction, it’s the same with crossing guards as disobeying a crossing guard is an offence under the motor vehicle act.”

Both offences carry a 167 dollar fine.

Private schools return to class today while the rest begin tomorrow.

Drivers are reminded to slow down to 30 kilometres an hour in a school zone.

Fines begin at 196 dollars and can rise depending on the drivers speed.
