New housing starts on the rise in Prince George

There’s been a spike in the number of new homes being built in Prince George.

CMHC Regional Economist, Carol Frketich says the city is well ahead of last year’s pace.

“Overall on the year to date basis Prince George has seen a pick-up in new home construction with 177 units started this year compared to 78 units in the first eight months of last year.”

Frketich adds most of the new starts are from one category.

“The 177 units getting under-way this year are comprised mostly of single detached homes, 106 have been started through the first eight month to compared to 71 starts of this kind in 2014.”

Housing starts in BC’s urban areas totalled 31,696 units from only 31,099 units in July.
