First Nations appreciate federal office on energy projects

It’s a good gesture, but won’t go far in changing First Nations’ stance against the Northern Gateway pipeline.

That from Terry Teegee, Tribal Chief of the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council who says the fed’s new “Major Projects Management Office” to engage with First Nations is at least a step towards meaningful consultation.

Federal Resource Minister Greg Rickford announced Tuesday that the office’s mandate will be to work with First Nations on supporting their involvement in various West Coast energy projects.
