Fortis BC advises maintenance for Natural Gas appliances

As temperatures begin to drop in BC, more than 600,000 gas furnaces will be switching on across the province.

Fortis BC is advising residents to make sure their natural gas furnaces receive annual maintenance.

“It’s key for keeping people safe and warm” said Nicole Bogdanovic with Fortis BC. “It will help maintain healthy air quality in the home, it will prevent appliances from creating carbon monoxide and it will help appliances last longer.”

Bogdanovic says its something many people don’t even think about.

“Too few furnaces get attention until they malfunction, which can happen at the worst time when the temperature drops” said Bogdanovic. “That of course can be a big expense or even create an unsafe situation for the home’s occupants.”

She adds that it’s important to make sure natural gas appliances are serviced by a qualified contractor.
