Fraser – Fort George Plans Waste Management Update

The Regional District of Fraser Fort George is taking a fresh look at garbage.

The region is currently working on a proposal to update their solid waste management plan.

The major goals of the proposal are to increase recycling and composting initiatives while cutting down on the amount of garbage going into landfills.

“I definitely think that we’ve seen a shift in people’s behavior towards recycling” said Wast Management Program Leader Rachael Ryder. “With the onset of curbside recycling in Prince George I think people are always looking for another way to reduce the amount of waste they’re sending to landfills.”

She says businesses are big trash producers.

“We are looking at getting businesses to reduce the amount of waste that’s going to landfills” said Ryder. “Right now we’re seeing about 58% of the materials coming into the landfills is coming from businesses and commercial operations.”

You can learn more about the proposal by going to the Regional District’s website. There’s also an online survey where you can provide feedback on the plan.
