PG Woman Recognized for Brave Fire Rescue

After the Chateau Retirement home caught fire Wednesday morning, a Prince George woman is being applauded for her bravery.

Retirement home staff and Prince George Emergency responders are thanking 74 year old Millie Allen for pulling a fellow resident from the blaze.

Allen lives next door to the suite where the fire originated. When the alarm went off, she didn’t hesitate.

“I ran over there and the whole place was in flames and I could hear ‘help! help!’ so I called out to her” said Allen. “She came over and I just grabbed her and threw her out on the lawn.”

Both women were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation, although Millie was allowed to return home soon after.

“Anybody would have done it if they had heard this crying for help” said Allen. “I just never even thought of any danger or anything I just went in and got her.”

According to Fire crews, the blaze was sparked by an overloaded electrical outlet inside the suite.
