Ryan Gaiesky of DP Todd earned bronze in the boys 100 metre junior hurdles at the BC High School Track and Field Championships in Langley. Gaiesky also came 4th in the 300 metre hurdles. Amanda Heinze of PGSS finished 4th in the grade 8 girls javelin.

–Alyx Treasure of Prince George, who competes in the high jump for K-State, has qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Division 1 Nationals June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon. The 22-year-old Treasure clinched her second career trip to the NCAAs, and first outdoors. She tied for first overall with a final leap of 1.77m at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

–Barry Nakahura topped the field in the Northern BC Y Half Marathon finishing the 21.1 K course in 1:29:35. Jacqui Pettersen took the women’s title with a time of 1:38:59.

–The Prince George Superior Fencing Reds finished 4th out of 8 at the Westbank Cardinals senior men’s fastball tournament. The Reds went 2-2, including a 3-2 loss to the Westbank Cardinals,who are the Defending Native Canadian Champions.

–The Saskatoon Blades have hired longtime NHL assistant coach Bob Woods as their new GM and head coach. Woods had been an assistant with the Anaheim Ducks under Bruce Boudreau since Dec. 2, 2011. The 46-year-old was also on Boudreau’s staff with the Washington Capitals. Before joining the Caps, Woods guided the Hershey Bears to the AHL Calder Cup championship in 2009.
