PG Woman Eyes Norway Expedition

A Prince George woman is hoping to fulfill a childhood dream this spring.

Local teacher Katy Watson has dreamed about dog sledding across the frozen tundra since she was a girl, and now she has her opportunity.

Watson has entered the Fjällräven Polar competition, where people from all over the world collect votes online for the chance to take part in a 300 kilometre dog sled expedition through northern Scandinavia.

“I’ve always wanted to do this” said Watson. “I made an application video and found all my old grade-school work. I cut out huskies and I wrote stories and book reports.”

20 winners will be selected from a variety of countries around the globe.

“There are certain countries that have their own categories” said Watson. “Everyone else who wants to apply, including Canada, we all fall into the category “All Other Countries”.

Votes will be collected until December 10th. The two applicants with the most votes from each category will get to take part in the expedition.
