Spruce Kings de-rail Express

If their was ever a must win game the Prince George Spruce Kings had to have it was this one.

A four goal explosion in the second period lifted the Spruce Kings to a 6-4 win over the Coquitlam Express tonight (Thu).

After a fast start, the Express scored the first two goals in the opening frame off the sticks of Austin McIlMurray and Keegan Jones.

Before the end of the period Kyle Johnson tapped a cross-ice feed from Cavin Tilsley past Lawson Fenton to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Prince George would open the floodgates in the second period scoring four un-answered beginning at 1:45 when Nick Guerra scored unassisted.

Shortly after, the Spruce Kings would score two on the power-play just two minutes apart from Bryan Basilico and Cavin Tilsley to make it 4-2.

The Spruce Kings would add one more before the halfway point courtesy of Corey Hoffman and would spell the end for Express goaltender Lawson Fenton who gave up 5 goals on 20 shots.

In the third, Prince George would add another when Jarod Hovde scored his first BCHL goal past Tyger Howat to make it 6-2.

Coquitlam would add singles from Colton Kerfoot and Owen Stout to make the score a little closer.

Sam Tanguay made 28 saves in the victory which saw the Spruce Kings outshot the Express 42-32 overall.

The Spruce Kings are now 10 back of Coquitlam for the final playoff spot in the Mainland Division.

Prince George welcomes the Island Division leading Nanaimo Clippers to the Coliseum tomorrow (Fri) at 7pm.
