Teegee reacts to indigenous women meeting in PG

The three day meeting in Prince George on missing and murdered aboriginal women has wrapped up.

Over 350 family members of victims and several first nations leaders were in attendance.

Carrier Sekani Tribal Council Chief, Terry Teegee explains where they go from here.

“Now that there will be National Inquiry on missing and murdered aboriginal women, first nations families need to be involved on the reference and decisions such as the commissioner of the inquiry.”

It was quite the moment for families as well.

“It was an emotional and powerful meeting as many families shared stories and experiences in terms of when their loved ones was noticed to be gone from their family.”

Teegee adds their also needs to be a commitment from all levels of government on implementing recommendations from the Highway of Tears report.
