Cougars declaw Timberwolves

The Mount Royal Cougars took both game ones of the doubleheader against the hometown UNBC Timberwolves in Canada West Basketball Friday.

On the women’s side, Mount Royal dumped the Lady T-Wolves 79-56 thanks to a 17 point performance from Angela Driscoll.

Melissa Moore also chipped in with 16 points for the Cougars.

Eleni Steriopoulou led UNBC in points with 14 while Vasiliki Louka scored 13.

Mount Royal went on a 43-15 run in the second and third quarters.

Both teams sit with a 2-15 record.

The UNBC men blew a double digit lead with less than two minutes left falling 76-75 to the Cougars.

James Lefebvre led Mount Royal with 17 points while Matthew Gray came off the bench with a 16 point effort.

Rhys Elliott netted 31 points for the Timberwolves in a losing cause.

Marcus MacKay also pitched in 18 for UNBC.

Mount Royal won the game with 0.3 seconds left after Derek Wolf drained 2 free throws after a Marcus MacKay foul.

Game two of both doubleheaders are set for 5 and 7 tonight (Saturday) at the Northern Sports Centre.
