The UNBC Lady Timberwolves basketball team saved its best for last defeating the Mount Royal Cougars 71-58 Saturday.
It was the final home game of the season for the T-Wolves.
Kylie Pozniak led UNBC in scoring with 20 points while Vasiliki Louka added 19.
Another player who had a strong game was freshman Issy Bourque who netted 14 off the bench and was very strong defensively.
Bourque says they made a minor tweak from the previous night to help them win the game.
“We practiced a new press break and worked on executing it; we did not do that on Friday.”
Bourque adds the team made a lot of progress this season despite the 3-15 record.
“This year was a big building year, everybody came back after the break and just worked and I have seen improvement from everybody.”
Emily Asae was also solid defensively and on the free-throw line going 3 for 4 with 9 defensive rebounds.

On the men’s side, it was the Derek Wolf show at the Northern Sports Centre as his 39 points propelled the Mount Royal Cougars to a 87-80 victory over UNBC.
Rhys Elliott led the (3-15) T-Wolves in scoring with 27 while Marcus MacKay added 20.
Both 5th year players Billy Cheng and Colin Plumb were honoured before the game by the team.
Plumb says he won’t feel the effects of not suiting up until the fall.
“It won’t really hit me until they start up again in September without me but I am ready to do something different.”
Head Coach Todd Jordan says despite the heroic effort from Wolfe, they did not do enough on the defensive side to stop him.
“He had a hell of a night, he was making shots but we gave him a lot of open looks, when a guy gets going like that you have to crowd the line and we didn’t do a good enough job.”
Jordan adds despite the sweep, some positive signs were shown.
“I thought Anthony Hokanson had one of his best games, Sage Gosal stepped in and has started for us and due to our injury situation those guys are stepping up and at the end of the day with no playoffs in sight it’s good to get those guys on the floor a lot.”
Both UNBC teams finish up their season on the road in Edmonton next weekend against Grant MacEwan.
