An Environmental Science professor from the University of Victoria will be hosting a lecture tomorrow night (Thu) from UNBC’s Canfor Theatre.
It’s called “Sharing, Spreading, Shifting: Indigenous Peoples’ Plant Names and Classification Systems in Northwestern North America.”
Dr. Nancy Turner says she’s trying to find a deeper meaning to certain plants.
“I am looking at how the names of plants of different languages can tell us about their importance and relationships across language groups and families.”

Turner received an honorary degree from UNBC in 2014.
She will also speak at the school’s Natural Resources and Environmental Studies Institute Colloquium on Friday.
