The search is on for a new superintendent for School District No. 57.
The district has hired Vancouver-based headhunting firm GoFutures Human Resources to help fill the role, which became vacant when former superintendent Brian Pepper announced his resignation in December. Pepper held the position for nearly 10 years, stepping in the role in 2006.
School board chair Tony Cable says GoFutures is helping the district and its stakeholders develop criteria for the position and advertise the vacancy. It’s a comprehensive process and Cable says the district will be working closely with the firm for the next few months.
“We’ll work with them, come up with a short list then they will do some recommendations for the interview,” says Cable, “ then they’ll work right with us until we find a new superintendent.”
The search will be Canada-wide but Cable says the district would welcome a local candidate. The district is hoping it can attract another long term candidate to take over where Pepper left off.
“We’re hoping, when we find a new superintendent, that we will have that person, male or female, for a number of years.”
Cable says the district is committed to finding a great replacement for Pepper and the process for filling the role will be comprehensive.
“It’s quite a detailed process but this is the educational leader for the district and it’s the highest paid position in the district so we have to get it right.”
Cable says the district hopes to be in the final stages of its search by May.
