The City of Prince George showed its support and appreciation for local nonprofits and community groups today.
City Councillor Terri McConnachie says she was honoured to be a part of the presentation.
“It was an absolute honour to be part of the grant distributions. It was humbling. I’m absolutely over the moon about it. We’re lucky here in Prince George where our nonprofit groups do an enormous amount of the heavy lifting to make our community the great one that it is.”
McConnachie says 25 years of work in the nonprofit sector gave her a special appreciation for the work these organizations do.
“I know how much they do. I’ve been quoted on this before – they can take 50 cents and turn it into four bucks. They’ve got talented people that will exchange passion for what they’re doing. There’s no frills other than just working with a team of people to make something great happen.”
Mayor Lyn Hall said the event was an opportunity for the City to express its gratitude.
“It was a way of us being able to thank them and congratulate them for the work they do. They’re the heart and soul of our city.”
46 community groups, including the Coldsnap Festival, Theatre NorthWest and the Association Advocating for Women and Children, received $397,105 in Community Enhancement grants, Community Celebration grants and myPG Community grants.
