Freshwater anglers asked for input on how to spend licensing fees

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC is taking full advantage of a fresh, new revenue stream.

“As of April of last year, we now receive 100% of freshwater fishing license fees,” says Society spokesperson Stacy Webb. “We’re using this as an opportunity to let anglers know where their fees are going, what they’re helping to fund that directly benefits recreational fisheries.”

Webb says they’re seeking feedback from anglers about the best investments for the new funds.

“We are in the process of doing a tour around the province with public information sessions, including Prince George next week. It’ll give people who are interested in where their license dollars are going an opportunity to provide some input and suggestions.”

The Society is considering improvements to docks and other amenities, research projects and assessments of both wild and hatchery stocked lakes. They currently stock 71 lakes in the Omineca-Peace Region.

Webb says they’re also looking for feedback from anglers on new initiatives.

“There’s gonna be a survey coming out in the next little bit,” Webb says. “We’re looking for other feedback on…some other types of license products that we will be working on with our government partners to potentially roll out in the next few years.”

The Prince George information session will take place at UNBC from 7:00-8:30 pm on Thursday, April 14. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to [email protected] and to include the date of the session they are responding to.
