Bateman responds to MSP tax collection costs

The cost of collecting Medical Service Premium Taxes in B.C has skyrocketed in the past year.

B.C Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Jordan Bateman says taxpayers almost spent $80 million last year to collect the tax.

“We were shocked to find out the cost to collect MSP went up 30% in one from 59 million in 2014 to 77 million dollars last year and frankly we have to hear a good from the Finance or Health minister as to why that is.”

“It’s a shame we have to go through Freedom of Information to release this and government has been very secretive about collecting the cost of MSP, how many people are late and how much debt is written off.”

The document also shows the province spent $189 million dollars on MSP tax collection in the last three years.

The province has spiked MSP 40% in the last 5 years.
