Nine weekend wildfires human caused

Nine new wildfires sparked over the weekend in the Prince George Fire Centre, all of which were human caused.

Fire Information Officer Jill Kelsh says it’s important to be vigilant when having a fire.

“Normally at this time of year we start to see our lightning fires occurring, especially after we’ve had some drying out and then we have a thunderstorm pass through. So it’s really important that we limit the number of human caused fires, so that our resources can go towards the natural lightning-caused fires.”

Kelsh says four of the fires are now out, and the other five remain under control.

Right now the fire danger rating is high, and with the rain it may go back down to moderate; but Kelsh says at this time of year, with just a day or two of hot weather the danger rating can jump back up again.
