A Fort St James tradition is back for another year.
The 19th annual Stuart Lake Fishing Derby runs this weekend.
Rosa Anne Howell with the Fort St James Chamber of Commerce says first prize, for the largest rainbow trout over 5lbs, is $7,500.
“Second prize has stayed the same, which is $5,000, but we have changed third prize to $2,500. We now have two participant prize draws of $500 and four draws of $500 in Fort St James bucks.”
Howell says 380 people took part last year, with people travelling from throughout the Nechako Valley and Prince George and as far as Smithers and Alberta. She says it provides a double benefit for the area.
“When these people come into our town fishing for the weekend there’s gas, fishing equipment and licenses… and it showcases our beautiful community.”
Debry hours run from 6AM July 1st to 12PM July 3rd. The lake closes at 8PM on Friday and Saturady.
